Cuba Dugout aims to be usable by everyone, including people who browse with a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification, or reduced motion enabled. This statement sets out where we stand honestly, rather than claiming a certification we have not earned.
Standard we are working to
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We have not commissioned a formal third-party audit, so this site is best described as partially conformant: most of it meets the standard, and the known gaps are listed below.
What we have done
- Every photograph carries alt text written from the actual image, not from a filename or a generic caption.
- The moving header stops entirely for anyone whose system requests reduced motion, and never animates on phones.
- Navigation, links and controls can be reached and operated with a keyboard.
- Text sits on backgrounds chosen to meet AA contrast, including the site title over photography.
- Page structure uses real headings in order, so screen readers can navigate by section.
- The site reflows to a single column on small screens and supports browser zoom without loss of content.
Known gaps
- Advertising. Ads are supplied by Google and their content is outside our control. Individual ad creatives may not meet contrast or motion expectations.
- Older articles. Posts published between 2021 and 2023 are being revised. Some still lack proper heading structure or have images whose alt text is being rewritten.
- Embedded media. Video hosted on third-party platforms carries whatever captioning the platform provides.
- No formal audit. Our conformance claim rests on internal testing only.
