Your Data Rights

You have rights over the personal information a website holds about you. This page explains what those rights are and exactly how to use them here. A request of this kind is often called a Data Subject Access Request, or DSAR.

What we actually hold

Very little, and it is worth saying so plainly before you go to the trouble of making a request. Cuba Dugout has no reader accounts, no newsletter, no shopping basket and no comment form. In normal use we hold nothing that identifies you.

The exceptions are:

  • If you have written to us — through the correction form or by email — we hold your message, and your name and email address if you supplied them.
  • Server and security logs — your IP address and browser details, kept briefly by our host and by Wordfence to block attacks.
  • Analytics and advertising data — held by Google and Automattic, not by us. See below.

Your rights

  • Access — ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
  • Correction — ask us to fix anything inaccurate.
  • Erasure — ask us to delete it.
  • Restriction and objection — ask us to stop using it in a particular way.
  • Portability — receive it in a machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent — where we relied on your consent.
  • Complain — to your data protection regulator, if you are unhappy with our response.

How to make a request

Email [email protected] with “Data request” in the subject line, or use the contact form. Tell us what you want us to do and give us enough detail to find your data — usually the email address you contacted us from.

We will confirm receipt and respond within 30 days. There is no charge. We may ask you to verify your identity before releasing information, so that we do not hand your data to someone else.

Most of the data collected as you browse this site is held by third parties under their own privacy policies, and they — not we — are the fastest route to it:
