Serie Nacional 65 Schedule: Every Subseries, 4 October to 29 November

The game-by-game calendar for Cuba’s 65th Serie Nacional now exists, two days before the first pitch. It has 352 games in 80 subseries, starts on Sunday 4 October 2026 and finishes the qualifying stage on Sunday 29 November. This page sets out all of it in English: opening day, every subseries in both zones, and a one-line run for each of the 16 teams.

It is a draft. Las Tunas’s provincial paper describes it as a proyecto de calendario that was to be made official at the league’s technical congress, and we have not yet seen a report that it was. We have checked it against every provincial source that has printed part of it, and the two places where those sources disagree are set out at the foot of the page rather than smoothed over.

Opening day: Sunday 4 October

The official inauguration is at the Estadio Victoria de Girón, where Matanzas open the defence of their 64th Serie Nacional title against Cienfuegos. All eight openers begin four-game subseries that run to Wednesday 7 October.

Opening day, Sunday 4 October 2026. Each of these is the first game of a four-game subseries that runs to Wednesday 7 October.

Five of the eight pairings are confirmed by a second, independent source. The other three — Isla de la Juventud at Artemisa, Villa Clara at Mayabeque and Guantánamo at Santiago de Cuba — rest on the published calendar alone for now. They are consistent with the four groups announced in August, which is as far as we can take them today.

How the calendar is built

The structure is the one the federation announced on 18 August, and the calendar follows it exactly. Our guide to the SN65 format has the groups and the playoff system in full; the short version is that 16 teams sit in four groups of four, two groups to a zone, and no team plays anyone from the other zone before the final.

  • Group stage, 4 October – 1 November: six four-game subseries, home and away against each of the three other teams in the group. 24 games.
  • Zone stage, 3–29 November: four five-game subseries, one against each team in the other group of the same zone. 20 games.

We ran the draft through the arithmetic before publishing it. Every team plays 44 games, 22 at home and 22 away. Every group pairing meets twice with the home side reversed, and every zone-stage pairing meets once. Each team is at home for three of its six group subseries and two of its four zone subseries. Nothing in the calendar breaks the format.

There are no games on 8, 13, 18, 23 and 28 October, on 2 November between the two stages, or on 6, 9, 13, 16, 20, 23 and 27 November. In the zone stage each five-game subseries carries a rest day after its third game.

What the calendar tells you

The derbies come early, twice. Pinar del Río and Industriales open at Industriales’ ground on 4 October and meet again in Pinar del Río from 19 October. Las Tunas and Ciego de Ávila, and Santiago de Cuba and Guantánamo, follow exactly the same rhythm. Three of the rivalries that will decide their groups are settled, eight games apiece, before the end of October.

The group stage decides more than the zone stage. Twenty-four of each team’s 44 games come against three opponents, inside four weeks. A side that loses two group subseries will spend November trying to make up ground in five-game sets against teams it has not seen yet.

Last season’s finalists close the calendar on the road and at home. Las Tunas, swept 4–0 by Matanzas in the 64th Serie Nacional final, finish at Holguín (17–22 November) and then at home to Granma (24–29 November). Matanzas, in the west, close their qualifying stage at Industriales. Both of last season’s finalists play their final subseries inside their own zone’s top-four race, which is the only race there is in this format.

The qualifying stage is shorter than the announcement suggested. When the format was announced in August, the regular season was reported as running to 22 December. The calendar as drafted finishes the 44 games on 29 November — both beisbolencuba and Holguín’s published schedule end there — which would leave December for the zone playoffs. We are treating 29 November as the end of the qualifying stage and have added a note to our format guide until the federation says otherwise.

Where the sources disagree

Las Tunas v Guantánamo, 3–8 November. The published calendar has Guantánamo travelling to Las Tunas. Las Tunas’s two provincial outlets, Tiempo21 and Visión Tunera, both say the Leñadores open the zone stage in Guantánamo. We have printed the calendar’s version, marked it, and will correct it the moment a third source settles it.

Las Tunas v Holguín, 17–22 November. The same two Las Tunas outlets say this subseries is played at the Estadio Julio Antonio Mella, starting on the 18th. Holguín’s own published schedule, carried by Radio Angulo from the Cuban News Agency, says Holguín are at home and starts it on the 17th, and the calendar agrees with Holguín. Two sources against one: we have printed Holguín at home from 17 November.

Holguín’s ten subseries, as Radio Angulo printed them on 30 September, match the calendar on every date and every venue. Las Tunas’s first four, as Tiempo21 printed them on 28 September, match too. The disagreements are confined to Las Tunas’s November.

What we left out. Start times: the calendar gives one for opening day, and no second source has confirmed it yet. Stadiums other than those named in a source. And any claim that the calendar is final, because nobody has yet reported that the technical congress adopted it unchanged.
