Cuban-Born MLB Free Agents for 2027: Arozarena, Morejón, Iglesias and the Class

As of 30 October 2026. Six Cuban-born major leaguers filed for free agency on 29 October, the day after the World Series ended: Randy Arozarena, Adrián Morejón, Raisel Iglesias, Yoán Moncada, Adolis García and Nestor Cortes. A seventh, Luis Robert Jr., is waiting on a club option, and Jorge Soler has been a free agent since August. No single list of the Cuban-born class exists in English, so this page builds one from MLB’s own transaction log and keeps it current through the winter.

Cuban-born here means born in Cuba according to the MLB Stats API, whatever flag a player has since worn. Every stat line below is 2026 Major League Baseball regular-season play with the club named.

The headliners

Randy Arozarena, Seattle Mariners

Arozarena is the biggest Cuban-born name on the market. His 2026 for Seattle: a .381 on-base percentage, 26 home runs and 26 stolen bases in 154 games for Seattle. Born in Havana, he has represented Mexico, not Cuba, in international play, including the 2026 World Baseball Classic. DraftKings Network’s early free-agent preview frames Seattle’s winter as starting with whether to retain him.

Adrián Morejón, San Diego Padres

Morejón reaches free agency at 27, young for a pitcher with seven major league seasons behind him (debut July 2019). The Havana-born left-hander worked 86 innings over 76 relief appearances for San Diego in 2026 with a 2.83 ERA and 107 strikeouts. DraftKings Network’s preview calls him the highest-upside relief arm in the class; that is a ranking, not a contract projection.

Raisel Iglesias, Atlanta Braves

Iglesias, from Isla de la Juventud, saved 34 games for Atlanta in 2026 with a 2.55 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP. He turned 36 in January. He also filed for free agency in November 2025 and re-signed with Atlanta on 19 November, so this is his second straight winter on the open market.

The rebuild cases

Yoán Moncada, Los Angeles Angels

Moncada signed with the Angels in February, was on Cuba’s 2026 World Baseball Classic roster, and then lost most of the season to injury: 41 games, a .189 average and three home runs before going on the injured list on 22 May. He is 31.

Adolis García, Philadelphia Phillies

García signed with Philadelphia as a free agent on 16 December 2025. He hit .195 with seven home runs in 67 games before the Phillies moved him to the 60-day injured list on 12 June, and he did not play in the majors again in 2026.

Nestor Cortes, Philadelphia Phillies

Cortes, born in Surgidero de Batabanó, was unsigned until 19 August, when Philadelphia added him and sent him to the minors. He was recalled on 28 September but did not appear in a major league game in 2026, according to the MLB Stats API.

Still to come

Luis Robert Jr., Baltimore Orioles: a $20 million club option

Robert’s contract carries a $20 million club option for 2027 with a $2 million buyout. Baltimore claimed him off waivers from the New York Mets on 31 August, and he played three games for the Orioles before a hamstring injury. His 2026 across both clubs: 61 games, .221/.300/.407, 11 home runs. Francys Romero reported on 29 October that the Orioles are expected to decline the option, which would make the Ciego de Ávila native, 29, a free agent. Until the decision is announced he stays off the list above. Option decisions are due by Monday, 2 November.

Jorge Soler, unsigned since August

Soler is already a free agent. The Angels released him on 6 August after designating him for assignment, and as of 30 October the MLB transaction log shows no club for the Havana-born slugger, now 34. He hit .203 with 12 home runs in 86 games for Los Angeles in 2026.

What happens next

Eligible players became free agents the day after the World Series. Former clubs then have a five-day exclusive window, after which any team can sign them. Two dates matter for the Cuban-born class: the 2 November option deadline, which settles Robert’s status, and 1 December, when MLB’s collective bargaining agreement expires.

Analysis: a lockout after 1 December would freeze major league signings. Any Cuban-born free agent still unsigned by then could wait some time for a deal. This page will log every signing with the date, the club and the terms as reported.
