What happened
The third of Cuba’s four straight group-stage wins, and the only one in which the offence ran up double figures. Germany finished Group A 1–4.
Germany were one of two European entrants in Group A and finished 1–4, alongside the Czech Republic on the same record. Neither reached the Super Round. For Cuba the game was straightforward: ten runs, and the only double-figure total they managed in nine games at the tournament.
Ten runs was the most Cuba scored in any game at the tournament. Their nine game-by-game totals read 0, 2, 10, 7, 6, 0, 1, 9 and 3 — a lineup that could put up a crooked number against the weaker sides in Group A and was shut out twice by the two teams that reached the final.
