The 61st Cuban National Series opens on January 23rd, 2022 with a rematch between last years title competitors Granma and Matanzas. The official WBSC coverage looks to begin on January 25th as defending Champs Granma face Guantánamo.
How the 61st Serie Nacional finished
The 61st Serie Nacional opened on 23 January 2022 and was the first in the tournament’s history played entirely inside a single calendar year, with the regular season running to 22 May and the playoffs following in June.
It produced a rematch of the previous final. Granma and Matanzas met again, and again Granma won — but this time it took all seven games. Granma took the series four games to three, closing it out with a 4–0 shutout on 29 June 2022. Granma reached the final having gone 43–32 in the regular season, 4–1 in the quarterfinals and 4–0 in the semifinals.
Back-to-back championships gave Granma three titles in six seasons, after their first in January 2017.
