My introduction to Roberto came in 2015. He was a member of the expansion Ottawa Champions of the CanAm League. The Cuban infielder was one of the first Cubans to infiltrate the independent league but definitely wouldn’t be the last. Stay tuned for parts 2 and 3 where we discuss what led him to Canada and why he didn’t end up with the New York Mets. Language often acts as a barrier but Roberto has become fully bilingual and conducted the full interview in English.
