2021 Cuban National Series Final Game 1

Live Sunday, March 28th, 2021 2pm EST Cuban National Series Final Game 1 via Cubadugout. The Cuban National Series playoffs might end up taking as long as the regular season to complete, but finally we have arrived at the Finals. The Finals will see the defending champion Matanzas Cocodrilos take on recent two-time champion Granma Alazanes

The Crocodiles might enter as the favourites despite being the lower seed. They finished four games behind Granma in the regular season, but have gotten healthy and had many key pieces return for the playoffs. Both teams will be missing key pieces that are playing in professional foreign leagues. Although Matanzas will miss young catcher Ariel Martinez, Alfredo Despaigne leaves a gaping hole in the middle of the Alazanes lineup. Both players are fulfilling their professional commitments in the NPB in Japan.

The two squads have met in the playoffs before. Most recently during the 57th Cuban National Series Semi-Final. Granma upset the heavily favoured Cocodrilos en route to their second consecutive championship. Take a quick look inside that series as cubadugout was on the ground in Matanzas and put together this short video.

Granma will rely heavily on ace Lazaro Blanco who has been stellar in the playoffs thus far. He will get the ball in the Series Final Game 1. Granma might have to rely on Blanco for three starts if they hope to raise another banner. I recently touched on Blanco and how he might be Cuba’s most important pitcher of the last decade.
