This was one game in Cuba’s 2021 U-23 World Cup campaign. The full tournament record — every result, the Super Round collapse and the bronze medal game — is here: Cuba at the 2021 WBSC U-23 World Cup.
What happened
Cuba met Colombia for the second time in three days and lost again, 5–3. It was Colombia’s first medal at a U-23 World Cup. Venezuela beat Mexico 4–0 in the final the same day. Cuba, who had won five of their first six games, finished the tournament 5–4 and off the podium.
Cuba finished the tournament with five wins and four losses across nine games, in fourth place. The pattern is stark: four wins and one defeat in Group A, then one win in four once they reached the Super Round and the medal game. Venezuela took gold, Mexico silver, and Colombia their first ever U-23 bronze.
